Why The Name Coakleys?

A lot of time and thought was put into the name Coakleys. First off, it is named after the owner and operator Gary Coakley. That’s not the only reason the name was chosen, though. Our goal is to build the Coakleys brand into something that customers recognize for its quality, service, and tradition. The company decided not to incorporate the words “shoes” or “repairs” in the name since the shop will eventually grow into other services and product offerings. The name Coakleys provides the flexibility to extend into other markets while maintaining the brand and not having to change the name.

Coakleys prides itself on exceeding customers expectations. If one of our services does not meet your expectations the team will redo the service free of charge, and if the customer is still not satisfied, we will refund the original price of the service provided.

Gary Coakley

Owner / Operator

With more than 17 years of experience in the shoe repair and engraving industry, Gary decided to take action into his own hands and start up a company of his own. Here, he could make quality  the number one priority. You’ll see him when you stop by Coakleys because Gary runs all of the day-to-day operations of the shop. Gary started the cobbler trade when he was 16 years old at a shop called Essex Shoe Repairs, in Bury St Edmunds in England.

Four years ago, he moved to Canada to be with his girlfriend, now wife, and has continued his trade here. Gary’s dream has always been to run a shop that allowed a person to get all their traditional services done under one roof. That dream has now begun and he is excited for many successful years ahead.

Taylor Ablitt

Owner / Treasurer

An HBA graduate from the Richard Ivey School of Business, Taylor is focused on the long term growth initiatives, marketing, and accounting side of the business. Taylor’s accounting designation and business sense will help grow the Coakleys brand into something much more than your typical shoe repair shop.Moving to London over 8 years ago, Taylor has strong roots and active involvement in the London community, particularly with the Special Olympics coaching and managing Alpine skiing and Softball teams.
